What Can I Expect?

At FVI, our medical coding and billing NRCCS Test Prep course is designed to give you the skills you need to pass the Nationally Registered Certified Coding Specialist (NRCCS) exam.

The Nationally Registered Certified Coding Specialist (NRCCS) designation demonstrates to colleagues and employers that certified individuals have the  medical billing and coding knowledge and proficiency required for work in health care and medical billing settings.

Divided into five, eight-hour Saturday sessions, our program can teach you:

  • The responsibilities of a medical coder and billing
  • The characteristics of the commercial and government insurance health plans, including Medicare, Medicaid, HMO, PPO, and POS
  • Typical billing guidelines
  • Current guidelines for coding diagnoses and procedures
  • How to understand Insurance Claim Forms
  • How to understand the complexities of ICD-10

To enroll in this test prep course, you must be working as a Medical Assistant or be enrolled in a Medical Assistant Program. If you are currently a student, there are prerequisite courses required before you can participate – Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Terminology, and Office Procedures.

After you’ve completed this program and pass the NRCCS exam, you’ll be prepared  to work as medical coding and billing specialist. As a medical coding and billing specialist, you’ll work with doctors, hospitals, clinics, and other medical facilities. In this position, you’ll be responsible for using medical codes to input patient information. This gives their physician accurate records so they can provide better healthcare services, and allows insurance companies to properly process medical claims.
